WHAT IS SCOUTS

PLEASE SELECT

A SECTION

When the Movement first started there was only the Scout Section.

The section now covers the age range of 10 1/2 to 14.
Scouts become Explorer Scouts when they reach 14.

Outdoor activities feature prominently in the Scout Troop. Throughout the year there will be a variety of camps and other events.

Many Troops have one day activities which could include things such as canoeing, sailing, raft building, climbing, abseiling, hill walking, survival exercises, archery, mountain biking and many, many more.

Patrols may also do things on their own without a Leader running the activity. Scouting trains young people to take on responsibility for themselves and their activities.

The training programme needs to be much more varied than in other sections, due to the wider age range.  Today it might be possible for Scouts to take up electronics, amateur radio, or mechanics.

Also important to training are community projects which had their origin in the Scout's "good turn". Today this might mean participating in a local conservation scheme or fund raising for a local charity.

Throughout their time in the section a Scout can gain many awards and badges for proficiency in an activity.

Many Varied Activities

The members of the Scout Section are very active, with lots of different things to do. Scout Troops go on camps of their own during the year, which could take them anywhere in the country.
There are many joint activities oraganised to make use of the facilities in the area. This could be as local as Tawd Vale.

Why not see what you can do?

Come and give it a try. You might surprise yourself at what you can do.

Scouts meet between 730 - 900 pm on a tuesday
