The Adventure of the Gimps and the Hulk Aftermath

On the 8 December we all went on a Mini Moonlight walk. We had to make our way from the Scout Head Quarters to Ruff Woods without getting caught by the catchers and avoid going into the pub on the way, which was a challenge in itself. We were split up into two groups The Gimps and The Hulk Aftermath, but we just stayed together all the way through anyway.

Sam the Map reader extraordinarily read the map and told us were to go! (he he) If we didn’t have him there we might have ended up in a ditch or something! (Oh no wait we did, 3 in fact!) Everyone else was on hand to help drag out the person/people who constantly got stuck in them, Mentioning no names Me (Like I said no names!). He did well thought and we never got lost at all!

We used loads of different skills and techniques to help us get across the fields and to the first check point.

We stealthed it!, (Ssshhhhhh!), Fielded it, (Squelch EW! Squelch Mud!), Legged it, (Quick run!), Pathed it’, (Take a wild guess) And Colin drove it! I bet that was challenging’

So when we got to the check point we had a 2 minute break and we ate Bonbons, a cup of tea would have been nice but we made do! We were the second group there so things were looking good! So after that we set off on the same route back.

And once again we leapt across ditches, scaled high fences (well they weren’t that high) and dived under barbed wire (spikey!) And we got back to the hut first and we weren’t caught at all! So the stealthing paid off! And We Won! (Yay! Woohool) And we got the totally cool trophy’

Our teams came in First and second and we all came in within 1 minute of each other so that was good! At the end of the night there was only 2 teams missing which is OK considering 80% of us were safe! ( however the others have yet to be found!) So that’s it really. We all had a great time and we all got nice and muddy! I know I can’t wait until the next one!

Explorer Camp Review

22 October – 24 October

By Andrew Wade

Wet, Wet, Wet! That’s the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the weekend camp. The rain never stopped, and when it did, we were probably asleep! However the camp was really good, after setting the tents up in the rain and darkness, we sat round the fire and enjoyed various games in the Mess tent, didn’t we Col!

The Saturday was full of canoeing, as all of us achieved our 1 star awards. The journey on the canal was really good as well, wade and bridge found a dead duck, and Charlotte and Sam nearly crashed into an on coming boat! Yes we did all complete the 1 star!

Bridge enjoyed washing up the corn beef hash we ate for dinner that evening and a long game of man-hunt was played throughout the evening, with no cheating at all. Well, just a bit, and I did sit in the dark on my own in the wet mud for a whole hour, scared!

Poker was played after the chasing around, with Lambie and Charlotte winning in the end, unlucky Dave! A nice sleep all round on the Saturday night, especially the girls in their palace of a tent, until Dave’s voice bellowed for breakfast! Sunday morning was another game in the morning, then tidy and pack away ready for home!

A good camp was had all round and on behalf of all of us I would like to thank Col and Dave again for a superb time!
